‘My heart Loves your Sweet Serenity.’

In between all the dresses for brides-to-be this coming season, we have to make some time to flaunt the GELIEFT-brides of 2011!  One of them is Susan Doubell, now Mrs. Schloms, whom married her ‘MATCH’ Heinrich in October 2011.

It was an absolute blessing to work with Susan and all her bridesmaids. As we had the task of creating the Wedding gown as well as the bridesmaids dresses.  Susan radiates calmness, sincerity and inner happiness and that truly reflects on the beautiful images you are about to enjoy!

Simplicity, understated with a nostalgic twist was the ultimate feel for Susan and Heinrich’s wedding day. They envisioned a natural, serene untouched environment without clutter and opulence.  A day where people will remember the promise of love and not the feathered-headdress of a guest was the main objective! And the result was exactly as they planned.  A wedding in Eersterivier, a remote little holiday town at the sea,  an hour and half from Port Elizabeth was the ideal place!

Now here’s the part of the dress, that one-of-a-kind gown every girl dreams about!  Susan wanted effortless elegance and a simplistic design with a hint of reminiscence to a classic style of a past era.

The silhouette, a trapeze cut from the waist in a combination of duchess satin, dress tulle, polka dotted mesh and corded lace with subtle beading for a bit of sparkle.

The bridesmaids dresses were sublime all created in natural fiber  cloth; in neutral colours paired with thin leather waist-tie belts and pearl earrings.

Susan’s earrings were from VERA’S Bridal Collection. We stock all the pieces at the studio. Her shoes a comfortable pair of leather sandals with a seventies-wooden heel. A touch of BOHO-chic!

The amazing photography was done by Annemari Ruthven. ENJOY!!! :)

'In Dreams and in Love there are no impossibilities.'

It has been a while since we updated the blog with one of our real bride stories!

Ever since our latest blog post on Marli & Steyn’s wedding we have been very busy to create many bespoke gowns for all our brides and private clients. The most recent is the wedding gown of our dear friend Lehani du Preez!

Ever since we met Lehani (Also a fashion designer), she said that we will create her wedding gown one day! Soon that ‘One day’ arrived and we got a phone call shortly after DJ proposed! It was time to sit down and put ideas on the table to create a VERY special DRESS.   Everything had to be perfect for their day, so Lehani diligently planned the wedding herself, to the ‘T’.

The wedding had a nostalgic vintage feel-combining mauve grey and a subtle hint of purple giving a twist to the conventional.  The venue, Laatson, is situated on the outskirts of Porterville and contributed to the relaxed feel of their countryside wedding.

We had the privilege to share in this memorable day! Thanks Lehani & DJ for inviting us!

So let’s talk about the dress! The dress concluded to a 2 piece tiered gown-a trend setting style for 2011/2012.  This combination gives the bride the dramatic BRIDAL entrance at the ceremony and the comfort of a short cocktail dress at the reception. This accomplished by removing the voluminous skirt section.

The fabric choice for this dress was a classical mixture of Duchess Satin, French Chantilly lace, bridal tulle and beaded corded lace.  For something different we dip-dyed the hem of the dress giving it an umbre effect from cream to a warm grey hue.

All the jewelry was created by Anina le Roux of Lily Blue and the STUNNING shoes Lehani bought at Nine West! The amazing photography was done by Juné Joubert and the videography by Sweefilms.  Lehani’s hair and make-up was done by the TALENTED San-Marie Botha.

‘I love thee to the depth, breadth and height my soul can reach.’

Its WEDDING season and we are diligently creating the bespoke gowns for all our lovely brides getting married in the following months of spring and summer!  Winter has gone by, but left some memorable moments at the studio!  One of these special journeys we have to share today on the blog.

It’s the winter wonderful wedding of Marli and Steyn Basson on the 16th of July, during the Bastille Festival, in Franschoek. We quote Nicola of The Prettyblog, whom recently featured the wedding – ‘…Franschhoek was really busy, and there were loads of people. They were all in a very festive mood, which was great! There were   a bunch of curious people watching Marli as she got out of the car, it felt a little like a celebrity wedding…’ :-) Their wedding day was the PERFECT summers day in the middle of winter!

Marli excitedly contacted us in April 2011 after her sister-in-law Nicola insisted that she should come for a consultation! We loved meeting with this exciting bride-to-be! She’s an absolute treat, with her sparkly, sincere and humble personality! We enjoyed every moment of the process as she totally handed the task of creating her DREAM GOWN to us as designers! Marli’s only objective was that she wanted a dress that is elegantly classic with a dramatic twist.

The design process was so much fun! We combined line, form, colour and texture. Revealing an one-of-a-kind creation that exceeded expectations!  The fabric combination was a dove grey silk, with silver lurex Chantilly lace, French Chantilly with intricately embellished corded lace appliqués running into a full flare bridal tulle bottom with narrow scallop lace trim.  We applied some colouring techniques to the bridal veiling for fluidity of the design! For a fun element we added a dark grey satin ribbon with a vintage brooch Marli got from her grandmother.

The ceremony was at the Dutch Reformed church Franschoek and the reception was held at the Simondium Country Lodge.

THE PRETTY BLOG, 19 September 2011 extract:

The LOVE STORY:  Steyn was involved in the planning of the Impossible Journey. While searching for someone on Facebook regarding the planning of the event, he stumbled across a picture of me. Seeing that we only have one mutual friend, Steyn contacted her and asked if she could put in a good word for him. At first I wasn’t too keen on meeting a total stranger, but Jana convinced me to have coffee with him!

Steyn: I really wanted to meet Marli, but it took time and sweet talk! Eventually she gave in and we met at Melissa’s for coffee one Sunday afternoon in April. We chatted for more than four hours and I immediately fell in love with her. I knew we were going to get married and that I need to approach this the right way.  A month later I bought a bunch of her favourite flowers and headed to her house. I asked her to be my girlfriend and she, very shyly, said yes.

Indulge in the opulent photographs by the talented Nikki Meyer!

You may have seen the wedding feature on The Pretty Blog recently! Thanks Nicola and Christine!

Klein Plasie Wedding & Lifestyle Exhibition

We’re so excited to share our latest find and give you a preview of the Overbergs’ undiscovered Wedding and Function Utopia, KLEIN PLASIE Country House and Event Venue hidden between endless fields of canola.

A couple of weeks ago the phone rang at the studio. It was Hanli Kempen, owner of the most beautiful wedding venue situated in the Overberg! She was referred to us by Nina Neethling of VERA’S Bridal Collections, as she was searching for a wedding couturier for an exhibition.  After a heartfelt conversation with Teresa, talking about her family and all her passions, she cordially invited us to exhibit at the first exclusive Wedding and Lifestyle Expo at the newly renovated venue on their farm.  The exhibition was on the 9th and 10th of September 2011 and was an intimate affair with hand selected service providers in the wedding and lifestyle sector.

The Venue itself has a modernistic country feel.  Which lends itself to host from a fairly large Wedding, as there is a lovely chapel on the premises, to a close gathering of friends for a 50th birthday dinner.  Hanli thought of everything, when she worked on this project and in time she created a truly unique venue.  The attention to detail is absolutely superb, with Hanli’s eclectic artistic flair bringing colour to a fairly mauve hue range.

The farm boasts a BEAUTIFUL Country house with a stunning garden, walking distance from the venue, the ideal place for a bride and her entourage to get ready for the special day or even if you want to get away for a weekend with close friends and family!  The interiors mostly done by Hanli herself, is breathtaking!

Again an eclectic mix of furniture, colours and textures to awaken the senses.  She created the ideal home from home! Hanli we have to congratulate you on a job WELL DONE and we wish you the BEST with all you’re future endeavours.  We look forward to the first GELIEFT-bride to walk down the aisle at KLEIN PLASIE! :-) Indulge in the VISUALS below:

VERA’s Bridal Collection was also one of the exclusive service providers – and we stock their stunning pieces at our studio!

With our one-of-kind gowns we showcased a few of the Anella Weddingshoe Collection.

All the event photography was done by Jacques Lloyd of REAL SIMPLE PHOTOGRAPHY!

“Love’s the key that opens the gates of happiness.”

SPRING has SPRUNG! Launching us into the start of the wedding season for 2011/12! This being the ideal time to share, another memorable GELIEFT wedding gown created especially for the lovely bride, Monique Meyer Soole.

Monique booked a consultation in August 2010, after a long search to find the PEFECT Wedding Gown! She landed at our door, after a friend referred her to the GELIEFT-studio! The main concept was to create a bespoke gown with classic style lines to enhance her beautiful figure and the design elements drawn from old fashioned style and Vintage flair…

We had the ideal combination for such a dress-Duchess satin, raw silk, the finest Chantilly lace combined with multiple layers of soft dotted dress tulle and subtle beading to embrace the vintage elements of her references!  The silhouette was a strapless gown running into a moderate A-line skirt-section, elegant and sophisticated!

Monique and Charlie got married on the 9th of April 2011, a lovely mid-Autumn festive affair at the De Hoop Nature Reserve outside Bredasdorp in the tranquil Overberg district.  Both the ceremony and the reception happened outside, which created a relaxed and inviting atmosphere for all the close friends and family!

We referred Monique to Anina le Roux from Lily Blue, to indulge in a stunning pair of pear drop earrings to compliment her bespoke GELIEFT-Gown! The birdcage veil was created by us to match her one-of-a-kind gown. The detail was kept simple; decoratedwith a twill satin bow and vintage ornate brooch that Monique inherited from her Grandmother.

The day was capture by noted wedding photographer, Wesley Vorster – and we truly feel that these images reflect the most heartwarming moments of Monique and Charlie’s Special day!  It was a PRIVILEGE to contribute to such a memorable day!
