'My Love hath my heart, and I have his.'

It’s all systems go at the GELIEFT-Studio as we prepare online canadian pharmacy for all our gorgeous brides for the 2011/2012 Wedding Season.  But giving us no reason not to flaunt the most beautiful weddings gowns of our Autumn 2011 Brides.

Inge van der Merwe called the GELIEFT-studio 8 weeks prior to her and Donald’s weddingday, planned for the 9th of April 2011 in Kalk Bay.  With our first meeting we immediately knew that we will share an amazing journey with this  bride-to-be, whilst we create her DREAM GOWN.

For this beautiful Wedding Dress we focused on classical simplicity.  A slender silhouette and elegant V-style lines contributed to the success of Inge’s design.  The fabrication was a play of tone-on-tone of various textures.  Layering Duchess Satin, Bridal tulle, Chantilly lace and corded lace enhanced the dress and gave it dimension and a understated whimsical edge, though still keeping it sophisticated.

In the accessory department Inge was all sorted with the most beautiful vintage jewelery created especially to compliment the bride and her unique dress, by Anina le Roux of Lily Blue.  We just LOVED these individual pieces.  Her beautiful shoes was from the Errol Arendz shoe collection.

Inge and the bridal party got dressed at Rodwell House in St. James, her hair was done by Jonathan from Dash and make-up by Aliki from Head 2 Toe.  The Wedding ceremony was held at the Bible Institute in Kalk Bay, followed by pre-drinks on the pier.  The reception was at the well known, Harbour House restaurant overlooking the scenic views of waves crashing against the rocks.  The floral installations were done by LUSH.  The most beautiful detail was captured through the lense of Monica Dart Photography.

'A Right Royal Love-Affair'

As the gathering clouds bring the promise of winter rain and all the vendors in the wedding can you help me with my homework industry start to hibernate, whilst they prepare for the next wedding season.  The passionate GELIEFT-team aspires to enter various design competitions to keep them on trend and relevant to the fast-paced fashion industry.

An all time favourite is the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Challenge.  A competition encouraging all up-and-coming designers to push the envelope and design race-day ensembles, consisting of a frock, hat and accessories;  that are avant-garde, yet elegant and theme-appropriate,  to be worn to the ‘Greatest Horse Racing Event in Africa’; the Vodacom Durban July.

The essence of the GELIEFT brand was born from the inspired vision where fashion and bridal meet – a concept encompassing something bespoke, yet fashionable. It is a collaboration between Dutch design and French Flamboyance, both elements that are distinguished from the heritage of these two Afrikaans designers born in South Africa.

A unique design style, portrayed as Eccentrically Classic, the unexpected juxtaposition of two style characteristics in harmony, is the key to the brand – GELIEFT.

Teresa and Stephen have been selected by an elite panel of judges as 1 of 10 National finalists for the prestigious Fashion Challenge competition, now their fifth consecutive year.

They were also part of the Cape Town judging panel for the Young Designer Awards 2011 (Student Competition), which included ace Gauteng designer David Tlale, Fashion program director Tiffany Prior and Vodacom’s Lynn Benjamin.

Their take on this year’s Fashion Challenge theme ‘A Right Royal Affair’ was derived from the recent Royal Wedding hype of Prince William to ‘commoner’, as referred to by the world media, Kate Middleton. Mixed with a smidgen of eclectic panache of South Africa’s diverse culture enabled them to present a fresh take on this world-wide trend!  Read their inspirational poem below:

‘Life is to Love and be loved in return’

The months are flying by and we’re facing the cold rainy days of winter.  Today we’re time-travelling and teleporting you 3 months back to one of the most beautiful days in Autumn, the 26th of March 2011.  The weather was PERFECT and the GELIEFT-brides looked ravishing in their bespoke Wedding Gowns!

We had the privilege to share in the happiness of 2 brides on this particular day. The first being, Lichelle du Plessis who’s blog post, True love lasts forever, we featured a little while ago, just as Kate Middleton married her beloved Prince ‘Charming’ William. ;-) The Second lucky lady that got married on the 26th was Monique Ferreira to André Louw at the lovely La Petite Dauphine in the Franschoek Valley.  We met Monique in 2010, as she was referred by her Wedding Coordinator Izandi van Wyk of I DO Weddings to book a consultation for her DREAM GOWN at Gelieft.  Monique was very excited about their Wedding and diligently planned it with the help of Izandi.

We had to push the envelope for this one-of-a-kind Wedding Gown, as the objective was to create something elegant and sophisticated, yet sensually flamboyant!  We used the unexpected combination of Mauve Grey Silk, Silver Lurex Chantilly Lace, Snow White Fine Chantilly Lace, Embellished corded lace and Cationic Chiffon lined with mink silver elegant satin.  The silhouette was femininely cut to flatter her beautiful figure-lending the design a classic and stylish feel.  The combination of different fabrics made the gown unique and daring!  The finishing touch was a beautiful satin ribbon tied in the waist with a bow and a stunning Vintage brooch!!!

This dress was truly a work of art.  All of the lace appliqué on the corseted bodice was done by hand and took a few days to finish!  All done with attention to detail and lots of LOVE as every GELIEFT-Gown!

The Brides shoes by Anella was dyed to match the mink elegant satin.

The day was captured through the lens of well known Cape Town Photographer Christine Meintjes.  We just love the classic nostalgic feel of each image, encapsulating the emotions of Monique and André’s wedding day! Well Done Christine!

'Her style is Eloquent and Fun'

Today we’re featuring something other – than a beautiful white dress, but ensembles more colourful to warm the coldest of winters’ days.

We recently had the privilege to create several bespoke ensembles for Professor Marena Manley at the Department of Food Science, Stellenbosch University.  The outfits were designed especially, to be worn at the the 15th International Conference on Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR 2011) which was hosted for the first time on the African continent, over a week period.

This prestigious event was organised by Marena and Deidre from Conferences et al.

On the Sunday evening, the 15th of May 2011. in a vibrant cherry red corded lace corset and matching tiered tulle skirt with velvet polka dots, Marena, Okasie’s flower girls and the Cape Minstrels welcomed all the delegates on the red carpet at the CTICC in Cape Town.

After the opening on the Monday morning the delegates were introduced to Joseph (cheetah from Spier Cheetah Outreach programme).

On Thursday evening the NIR Africa Affair took place at Moyo, Spier Estate near Stellenbosch.  For this African themed Gala dinner, we created a 3 piece ready-to-wear ensemble – Marena looked effortlessly stylish and she completed the look with earrings, which she designed and manufactured herself whilst doing a jewellery design course a few years ago.

All photographs by Ralph of Zaphoto.

During the week 63 oral talks were presented and 110 posters. Keynote presenters were from South Africa, Japan, Germany, France and Portugal.

Some comments sent afterwards by delegates:

“It was an excellent conference.”

“I found the scientific quality of the conference very high.… I enjoy it!”

“All the organisation was perfect, nothing to say just to congratulate you and your team for this. Happy to have spent these 10 days in your lovely country … I hope to come back … “

“I will never forget the NIR2011 conference, a keystone in the NIR Galaxy… a star with a NIR pattern that will always mean a great success!!! You did it! You got it!”

“Thank you for the wonderful conference and all the South African hospitality.”

“There were many people attending the conference but I felt part of a big family.”

“I wanted to thank you again for all your efforts to make this conference a success and for the so warm personal touch of yours that made the whole difference.”

“I must emphasize that this last conference had the virtue of combining high level contents and excellent presenters.  It was a great learning experience, with interesting papers and lots of challenging topics.”

It was a WONDERFUL journey working with such a DYNAMIC WOMAN-we enjoyed it a lot! We trust there will definitely be future opportunities to create BEAUTIFUL dresses for her!

‘Wedding day, Love adornments by Vera’

The name doing it’s rounds in the bridal crowds these days, is VERA, and in this case it’s not the one accompanied by Wang, but definitely something that will make you’re wedding day SPARKLE even more!

Vera Basson is both designer and distributor of her own creations and jewelry and has more than 20 years of experience in this particular industry. She realized that there was a gap in the market for classical, elegant jewelry; especially for brides and the bridal party. Each jewelry piece is individually designed by Vera and her team to compliment the personal taste of every bride and to make her special day even more memorable by adding intangible sentimental value. These investment pieces are definitely worthy of being passed on from one generation to another.

Vera’s masterpieces are meant to bring joy and value to any lucky lady. They are meant to last many lifetimes whilst remaining timeless, elegant and vintage.

Vera herself takes great care in sourcing the best quality materials ranging from sterling silver, freshwater pearls and cubic zirconias, from trustworthy sources internationally.  All the pieces are handmade and reflective of her high standards in quality and execution of craftsmanship.

GELIEFT is proud to be associated with Vera and her team and is super excited to style our future clients with her beautiful pieces to compliment the bride in her one-of-a-kind wedding gown! We boast the complete collection at our studio. Come and have a LOOK!

The full collection can also be viewed on her website-VERA’S Bridal Collection . See list on site with your nearest boutique or jewelry shop that sells this exquisite collection.
